Once , there was a woodcutter named Bholu .
One day , while he was cutting the wood on a
tree on the bank of the river , his axe slipped
out of his hand and fell into the water. He
began to cry for losing his axe into the water
which was the only means of his livelihood .
Hearing the cry of Bholu the god of the water
appeared before him and asked ,"Why are
you weeping? "
Bholu then told the god of water that his axe
had fallen into the river .
"Do not weep," said the god of water ," I will
bring your axe back to you ." The god of water
took a dip and after some time came out with
an axe of gold.
" Here is yours axe ! Take it ."
" No , this is not mine. I won't take it ."
Then the god of water again took a dip in the
water and came out with an axe made of silver.
He asked Bholu to take it but he refused.
The god of water again went into the water
and came out with the axe of Bholu. Seeing his
own axe , Bholu exclaimed with joy ," yes, yes !
This is my axe ."
The god of water was very happy with Bholu's
honesty . He gave all the three axes to Bholu
as a reward of his honesty saying , " You can
have these axes too because you are an honest
man ."
