Gulliver was a great sea lover. He lived in England with his wife and children. Although he was a physician, yet his love for the sea often led him to long sea voyages
In the year 1712, during one such voyage, his ship named " The Antelope " was wrecked being caught in a violent storm. Gulliver , not seeing any fellow sailor around, had no choice but to move alone where the destiny would take him. Floating day and night on a broken piece of the wrecked ship, he reached a lonely island. Exhausted with constant labour, he fell fast asleep.
When Gulliver came out of his slumber, he was feeling quite hungry. To fetch himself with something to eat, he tried to get up but he couldn't.
'Oh Good! Why can't I move myself?' said Gulliver to himself.
As he looked around, he discovered that he was fastened tightly with many fibre ropes from head to toe. Suddenly, he saw some mini creatures crawling on his legs and hands. Some of them even climbed his chest. Gulliver, who was trying to identify these strange creatures, cried out of amazement when he saw that they were tiny men and women, hardly six inches tall.
They were speaking a language alien to Gulliver. "Untie me! Why have you tried me?" Gulliver shouted.
But it was of no use speaking as his tiny captors did not know his language.
Gulliver now decided to break the ropes. As he stretched to free himself, he had to face a volley of needle- like little arrows. The tiny arrows pierced his skin. Gulliver groaned with pain looking at the army of the soldiers who were standing at a distance wielding their bows and arrows.
Gulliver then made signs with his free hand to tell them that he was hungry. Understanding his demand for food, many little men and women ran towards the city and brought with them a good number of trolleys loaded with buckets of food and soups. The ladders were set to help them climb up to Gulliver's mouth with food and drinks.
The little people climbed up to Gulliver's mouth and started emptying the buckets of delicious food and drinks into his mouth one by one.
When Gulliver had taken enough food, he instructed them to stop feeding him by making signs with his free hand. Finding their giant guest satisfied, the little men and women began to sing and dance with joy.
Not afraid of Gulliver's size anymore, some brave soldiers climbed up to his nose. One of the mischievous soldier prickled Gulliver's nose with his sword. Having a tickling sensation in his nose, Gulliver sneezed so loudly that many of the little people fell down from his body, crying and shouting.
It was now time for the king of those tiny people to meet Gulliver. He came there followed by a train of attendants, and was hoisted to the chest of Gulliver, so that he could see his face closely and could talk him. Gulliver observed that the king was a tall and handsome fellow and was one inch taller than all his men. The king said something to Gulliver which he could not understand. The king then talked to his countries climbed down.
In the evening, Gulliver was again fed in the same way. Being fed to his Fill, Gulliver fell into a deep sleep. He woke up when his sleep was interrupted by a sudden jerk. He saw himself being carried on a huge carriage pulled by about hundred tiny horses. He was still bound.
As per the orders of the king, Gulliver was kept in the largest temple outside the capital of the kingdom. Blacksmiths were called to make a big iron chain with a heavy lock to be tied around his leg. The chain was made quite long so that Gulliver could move over a sufficient distance.
The king appointed a language trainer for Gulliver and arranged a team of cooks to prepare food for him . Soon, Gulliver learned their language. He came to know that the name of that kingdom was Lilliput.
Since Gulliver could now understand their language, a messenger was sent to him with a royal order. It was as follows :
" Dear Man - mountain, we are pleased to know that you have learnt our language in such a short time. Since your arrival to our land, you have not shown and hostility towards our people. We have decided to make you free. Although many of the royal advisors were against your freedom, yet great His Highness is kind enough to respect your freedom.
Your giant appetite is a massive threat to our kingdom as it may cause famine. Therefore, many officers are in favour of having you killed but our merciful king does not want to kill an innocent and obeying fellow like you. Thus, His Highness has decided to enter an agreement with you. You will have to defeat our enemy kingdom we are at war with. After the war is over, you will be granted your freedom. "
The messenger then asked Gulliver if he agreed to the condition of the agreement.
Gulliver who was quite touched with the hospitality and kindness of the king asked with messenger, " What is the reason behind the war? "
The messenger said, " We are at war with our neighbouring kingdom Blefuscu since thirty six moons, and thousands of men from both the sides have been killed since then. "
" But what led to the war? " Gulliver repeated his question.
" Well, as per a fundamental doctrine of our great prophet, the egg in our kingdom must be broken from the big end. Once the Great grandfather of our king, when he was a boy, following the tradition , began to break the egg , he accidentally cut the tip of one of his fingers. To prevent any such accident in the future, the then emperor forbade all his subjects from breaking the egg from the big end enforcing a law. Many people, considering it a serious interference in their religious belief, revolted against the emperor. Since then, one emperor has lost his life, another his crown. More than eleven thousand men have preferred to die rather than breaking the egg from the small end. Thousands of the mutineers have taken refuge in Blefuscu and with the support of Blefuscudian king's, they have attacked our kingdom many times to overthrow the present dynasty. At present , the Blefuscudian navy is all prepared to invade our shores. The number of their warships is five times greater than ours. "
Gulliver sent back the messenger assuring him off his earnest support to the crown of Lilliput.
All night, Gulliver kept thinking of a plan to save Lilliput from the attack of Bwarships
Next day, before down , Gulliver reached the shore to survey the enemy's fleet . He lay down on his belly and watched the fleet of enemy's ships with his binoculars. He saw more than fifty warships and a multitude of transporter ships.
After returning to his place, Gulliver asked the strongest cables along with some strong metal bars.
Gulliver found that the strongest cables were no better than thin threads and the metal bars were like knitting needles. He made some strong cables by twisting multiple cables together. He also made some hooks by bending two- three metal bars together. He then tied the hooks at the end of the cables and went to the shore with them. Before getting into the see , Gulliver didn't forget to put on his goggles to protect his eyes. Gulliver then waded through the sea water which was reaching only upto his chest.
Seeing a monster approaching towards them, the Blefuscudian soldiers began to shower arrows at him. Gulliver who had already covered himself with thick clothes and eye glasses did not find it difficult to reach near the fleet unhurt. Frightened of Gulliver, many Blefuscudian soldiers divided into the sea, and many more locked themselves into their cabins.
Very comfortably , Gulliver placed a hook at the prow of each ship and, clutching all the cables in his hands, dragged the warships to the shores of the Lilliput.
" Hurrah! Hurrah! Long live, Man- mountain! " the king and his countries cheered him up with great enthusiasm when they saw him coming along with the warships of the enemy.
There was a great celebration in Lilliput after the victory. The people of Lilliput began to view Gulliver as their hero. The king honoured Gulliver with the title of Nardac, which was the highest title in Lilliput, only below the king.
However, through his heroic act, Gulliver had heightened the expectations of the king of Lilliput, who has made some new plans. The king now wanted Gulliver to bring the rest of the warships of the Blefuscudians from their seaport. He sent a message to Gulliver in this regard.
Gulliver knew that Lilliputian king would annex the kingdom of Blefuscu after confiscating all its warships. Therefore , he refused to do so . He did not want the Lilliputian king to colonize a free and proud kingdom.
After a few weeks, a group of ambassadors came from Blefuscu to sign a peace treating with Lilliput. Learning about Gulliver's role in saving the freedom of their kingdom, all the ambassadors thanked Gulliver and invited him to visit Blefuscu on behalf of their king.
Gulliver, who was now free as per the agreement of his freedom thanked the Blefuscudian ambassadress for the invitation. Through he wanted to visit Blefuscu, he politely turned down the invitation as he was more eager to return to his family in England.
Gulliver needed a boat for his return journey. With the help of Lilliputian craftsmen, he built a strong boat and set off for his homeland.
