ENGLISH STORIES : KING MIDAS

Once upon a time there was a king whose name was Midas. The only aim of the king Midas was to hoard more and more golf. He would not pay any attention to the welfare of his subjects.
" If I could be the richest king of the Earth! " the king often wished.
One day, a great magician came to his court to show his magical tricks . The king was astonished to see the way he changed the plate of brass into a plate of gold. The king now wanted to learn the trick of changing brass into gold.
"I want you to teach me the trick of making gold," the king ordered the magician.
The magician smiled and tapped the hand of the king chanting a secret mantra.
" O King! Now onwards, whatever you touch will change into gold! " said the magician.
The king, to test the truthfulness of the magician's words, touched a flowerpot . To his sheer surprise, the flowerpot changed into pure gold.
" I will now be the richest king on the Earth! " cried the king out of joy. The magician left the court with a mysterious smile.
By afternoon, king Midas had converted almost all the things of his court into pure gold by touching them with his hand. Then, he was feeling hungry. He took an apple to eat. Lo! What is this? The juicy apple changed into solid gold. The king tried to eat many things, but all the food that he touched turned into pure gold.
" Alas! How can I eat gold? I am very hungry and I need food! " lamented the king.
Hungry and tired, the king went inside his royal bedroom. The little princess who was waiting eagerly for her father , ran to kiss  him. The king lovingly put his hand on her head . He was shocked! The little princess became a statue of pure gold.
"O my little daughter! What I have done to you!" Repented the king.
"Oh Good! Release me from this course!" the king cried loudly with tears in his eyes. Immediately, he asked his men to bring the magician. When he came to the court, the king requested him to free him from the effect of his magic spell.
"Nothing is more precious to me than my daughter. My greed for gold has converted my sweet daughter into a statue of gold,"  cried the king.
"I beg you to change her back into the same girl of flesh and blood," he pleaded.
The magician took hold of the king's hands and chanted some other mantra. Then he waved his magic wand and changed everything back to its previous state. Getting normal, the princess ran happily towards her father.
"O my daughter, I have got you back!" Said the king with tearfull eyes.
The king put his trembling hand on her head. Thanks to the Almighty! The princess did not turn into gold this time. The king had now understand the value of everything around him. He had realised that gold cannot give true happiness.
"Now onwards, the happiness of my subjects will be more precious to me than the pieces of gold!" Declared the king. True to his word, he became a caring king and found true happiness in the welfare of the people around him.

Although he was a physician, yet his love for the sea often led him to long sea voyages In the year 1712, during one such voyage, his ship named " The Antelope " was wrecked being caught in a violent storm. Gulliver , not seeing any fellow sailor around, had no choice but to move alone where the destiny would take him. Floating day and night on a broken piece  of the wrecked ship, he reached a lonely island. Exhausted with constant labour, he fell fast asleep. When Gulliver came out of his slumber, he was feeling quite hungry. To fetch himself with something to eat, he tried to get up but he couldn't. 'Oh Good!
